Week 10

Week 10 was the final week including our presentation and report. Since the report was almost finished, we decided to work on the presentation first. After, we then completed the report. The following pictures show the results of our structure and it's load path.

Here is the complete and final physical model of the Atomium

Throughout the 10 weeks, we learned and overcame many different obstacles. There was many difficulties in the physical model as well as the virtual model

Difficulties throughout 10 weeks:
  • styrofoam spheres slightly melted
  • rods did not stay in place
  • rods were not placed perpendicular
  • needed to brainstorm bipods a few times
  • represented piles not stayed in place
  • Sketchup couldn't geometrically remodel actual strucutre
  • Sketchup model couldn't transfer to visual analysis correctly
  • had to redesign in Autodesk Inventor
  • etc.
Learned:
  • the load path
  • it starts at the top and gradually goes down through the levels of spheres and finally into the foundation
  • the following figures represent the exaggerated stress (left) and normal stress (right)
